If you could have three wishes what would they be?

If I could have three wishes, they would not be selfish. My first wish would be is being a billionaire. If I had billions of dollars, I would work hard to insure that the lives of all Americans and far beyond are better than poverty. I would build safe houses all around the world for homeless families and allow them each 1 year to gain stability and move back into society as a mature adult. My second wish would be me being a distributor of wealth. I would solicit college kids who need tuition money and single parents who need cash to meet the months needs and organizations that could use a little boost in their economical status and I would bridge the gap that has left so many in the dust for so long. My third wish would be that I could travel the globe without any worries. I want to see the world and I am going to see the world before I leave this life. I'm online a lot and I see pictures of foreign land and my parents travel a great deal and they send back awesome pictures and I think how wonderful it must be seeing the world first hand versus seeing it through someone else s lenses. I'm not too difficult of a person when it comes to making a wish. I just pray to God they all become a reality for me.

Week 9 blog - make up

I remember a time when I was delivering a speech to a group of about 5,000 teens at the Peace Center. I had my speech well-written out but I knew it so well that I decided to leave the papers behind. I began my speech and at the end of it, I decided to give a few pointers on some research that I had done. I began talking about the study and my mind wen completel blank so the thought was incomplete. I walked off stage and felt like I had done the worst speech ever. I kept thinking, only had I said my speech and went on about my business. A friend of mine who is a retired senior writer from the New York Times told me "Derrick, make sure you have notes on hand" but me being the stubborn person I was, I decided against that. I got beackstage and everything I wanted to say came back so clear and I began to beat myself mentally because I couldn't believe I had went blank like that. If I could go back to that day, I would certainly have brought out the notes with me. I would have studied the research more and I would be 110% sure of what I'm saying. Or perhaps I would have note cards with notes and key pointers on it but at any rate, I would know my stuff. I emailed Ms. Williams and had to tell her the truth. I told her that my speech went very well but my ending was screwed and she called me just to say "Derrick, didn't I tell you to have notes on hand?" A few months later, I was asked to speak at a black history ceremony at Travelers Rest High School and I knew my speech front and back but I took the advice of my good friend, Ms. Williams, so now I'm always with notes.

Week 10 blog

Trey Gowdy is someone that I would refer to as a career politician. Someone who tells different audiences what they want to hear, even if it contradicts what he has said.

Gowdy talks about creating jobs in South Carolina and booming our economy but he provides no specific answer as to how he plans to do that if elected. He speaks the same message that so many other career politicians speak and it makes me sick to my stomach. Paul Corden, however had specific answers and even supplied examples such as how people who were publicly opposed to the Health care reform bill secretly reap the benefits of the reform.

Paul Corden is definitely my choice and I honestly I wasn't sure as to who I was going to vote for but now I know. I'm an independent voter, so I don't play politics. If the (r) candidate is the better fix, I will vote for him, however if he is not, he will not get my vote.

Week # 5 Rhetoric - Late with doctor note

On a given day rhetoric is ever so present almost at every angle I turn. I usually wear shirts with some type of logo or design that has words on it. I’m a Polo fan so many times, it says something like U.S.A. and it has an American flag and some of the other shirts may have a horse with a man riding it. To me, it represents the United States. When I turn on my television in the mornings while preparing for school, I see commercial of all sorts. Some talk about weight loss which is something I don’t, need while others may talk about why we should shop at the Express or Macy’s. Then when I get into my car, I’m listening to music that has a message. I listen mostly to gospel so the messages are always encouraging and inspirational but there are times when I listen to r&b and hip hop and even country music. One thing I like about country music is that the story the artist is telling is usually something deep but simple to grasp. Another form of rhetoric that I often encounter are bumper stickers on people’s vehicles. I’m very involved in politics. I love it. I am an independent but my views are more liberal. I see cars that have bumper stickers that say things that are offensive and that attack politicians and while we live in a country that allows us the right to do such a thing, it bothers me. But bumper stickers are cool because they give the driver behind you something to be entertained by while the light ahead is red. Another form of rhetoric is billboard signs. Most of them are filled with food advertisements. I may be riding down I-26 with my mind set on going to the Cracker Barrel but if I see a sign that says Texas Roadhouse, my mind is changed and now I’m getting off on a different exit to find Texas Roadhouse.

Blog #1

The author is saying that writing a paper isn’t always as easy as many would like to think when you’re identifying voice. She is suggesting that for a writer to compose a fine paper that they must first find the finer things about themselves. She suggests that it’s easier for a person to have a voice when they’re writing in a personal journal or in something that no one will ever read or be exposed to. The author wants everyone to be themselves when writing. We don’t have to try to be superficial because in doing that we often get confused and lose our sense of direction and understanding.
